Bari-Lynn Friedlander is an abstract artist currently based in Miami, with a previous career in the design and fashion industry in New York City. She has worked for the largest luxury conglomerate in the world, as well as designed for some of America’s biggest retailers. In 2019, she left her job to make the return back to her passion of painting: the one thing that always brought her happiness and light in times of darkness. At a time of social unrest for our nation (COVID-19, the 2020 presidential election, and Black Lives Matter), she found that her art could once again be used in a way to spread love rather than hate.
Having battled with mental health,
Bari-Lynn found that the one thing that always brought her out of her darkness (the light when she felt she couldn't find a way out) was her artwork. Picking up her pen, pencil, or brush always brought her into a calm and meditative state of mind. “Art truly saved my life and I believe that my purpose is to share this light and love with others.” - Bari
Her most recognizable work, the Abstract Cubism Series is her creative expression of spreading love through these vibrant colors and mesmerizing lines. Her intent with the abstracted figures is to evoke both a sense of togetherness and unity, as well as her self reflective battle of anxiety, depression, and obsession through the contrasting abstracted forms within her work. In all her works, she aims to explore the human connection, capturing this not only in her Cubism Series, but also in the simplicity and movement of thin line-work in her Abstract Line Drawings.
Bari-Lynn is an advocate for mental health awareness and hopes to inspire an open conversation with all her work.
